EU Settlement Status: Workers may need to act

The EU Settlement Scheme became live on the 30 March 2019. EEA nationals currently residing in the United Kingdom, who have not obtained British Nationality, should ensure they complete applications under this scheme prior to the deadline on 30 June 2021.
The purpose of the scheme is to protect the rights EU citizens and their family members currently have, including access to employment, health care, benefits and pensions.
Where EU citizens have been living in the UK for less than 5 years continuously they will need to apply for Pre-settled Status. Where EU citizens have been living in the UK for more than 5 years continuously they will need to apply for Settled Status.
It is important Employers highlight this scheme to applicable individuals in their organisations and encourage staff to make their applications as soon as possible. It is important that Employers are also proactive in relation to the scheme ensuring their employees continue to retain the right to work in the UK.
