Payslips: New Rules

New rules regarding payslips come into force on 6 April 2019 under the Employment Rights Act 1996 (Itemised Pay Statement) (Amendment) Order 2018.

Payslips for workers

From April 2019 all employers must provide payslips to workers as well as employees. This includes agency workers who should be provided with a payslip from their agency.

Variable Hours

From April 2019 a payslip must state the number of variable hours being paid where the amount of wages or salary varies in relation to hours worked. This may either be by a single aggregated figure or separate figures for different rates of pay or different types of work.

To be specific the payslip only needs to show the hours that actually vary. For example if a worker is salaried to work 37.5 hours per week and works an additional 2 hours overtime, only the additional 2 hours need to be recorded.
